“But what does ‘critical’ mean?” That’s an easy one! It means “analytical.” The word “critical” was first used by Thomas Carlyle in his book, The Reflections of the Adversary. In fact, the term has become almost overused, so much so that it almost ceases to have any meaning at all.

In addition, by asking several questions, you will be more likely to come up with more than one idea. This will help you find ways to explain these ideas. After all, no one likes to think the same things again. You may want to think about the question and then think of other ways to explain your answer and give your best explanation for the ideas that you have.
You may also benefit from having a book that teaches you the basics of critical thinking skills. and techniques. It will be handy for you to refer to as you study your textbook, but it should be informative and not just an instructional text book. If you read something in the book that does not have relevance to what you are studying, do not read the entire passages. just the title. If you do, you may end up skipping sections or reading it in a different context.
You may also want to keep a journal and write down the things that happen in your life, in your classroom, or in other places where you need to use critical thinking skills. You will find that many of the ideas that you come up with are actually true. Often you find that you already knew them, but you do not remember them. Sometimes you see something that is not obvious to you, but you can figure out that it is true. As you are reviewing, remember the things that you already know, you can revise your own beliefs and ideas, but do not necessarily let them go completely away.
You can do a lot of good if you have the right kind of critical thinking skills. You will discover that they are not as difficult to master as you may think. Just practice your skills.
You can improve your critical thinking skills by practicing what others say is true. If someone says something that you do not agree with, challenge them on it. Do not allow their point of view to dominate over yours. If you can, get a second opinion. Then if they change their mind, show them the new information and how you came to your second conclusion.
You can improve your critical thinking skills by taking part in activities that you can do alone. You can spend some time doing puzzles, crosswords, Sudoku, word searches, or other types of games that require your critical thinking skills. When you are alone and you cannot think of an idea on your own, then you will find it easier to look up words in a dictionary or a book of definitions. or even an online dictionary. This will help you develop your critical thinking skills by being able to think quickly and efficiently.
Finally, you can improve your critical thinking skills by using your imagination to come up with other ways of thinking. For example, if you know that you can’t think of a solution to a problem in a classroom, try to imagine what students might have thought about it. They may be thinking of something different than you think you should. You can even create a hypothetical problem and try to solve it by thinking of your own solution.
