The National Council for Accreditation of Allied Medical Schools (NCCAMMS) approved the exam in 1990. There are now four institutes that conduct the examination on an accredited schedule. The Institute of Architectural Registration in North Carolina is the only institute offering the examination without a government accrediting body.
There are many different sections required for the exam. The first section, which is the Theory section, requires students to study the theory in order to understand their test questions. Students must then pass two written examinations and a field test before they are allowed to take the written portion of the exam. The first part of the written portion also consists of a written evaluation of each candidate’s understanding.
The practical portions of the exam, both the theoretical and practical portions, require students to study under the supervision of a practicing architect or professional with whom they have no professional relationship. Students must understand and demonstrate their knowledge of design techniques and tools used in construction projects. During the practical portion, students must design and complete a project from beginning to end. They must present their finished project to a panel consisting of a practicing architect and a panel of impartial judges for approval.
Students must understand the principles of architecture, engineering, and other related disciplines when taking the practical portion of the exam. In addition, students must also study the principles and theories of planning and design as well as the practical application of these principles and theories. Students must be able to express themselves clearly in writing in all areas of their studies. The written part of the exam requires students to submit three to four academic papers and one essay. Students must also demonstrate their written writing abilities in presentations.
The practical part of the exam consists of taking the project to completion, which is similar to the written portion. However, the practical project consists of many more detailed assignments than the written portion. students must apply their knowledge of engineering, architecture, building construction, electrical and structural principles, and methods. In addition, students must provide their own references for the project work as well as an objective report.
Students who successfully complete the practical portion of their examination will then be required to pass an oral board exam. This oral portion requires students to demonstrate their knowledge and skill in applying mathematics, science, and other related disciplines. The exam also requires the student to demonstrate their writing skills in an oral presentation.
A successful examination is important in order to become an architect. Many people, especially those looking for employment in this field, will take the exam for the first time in order to increase their chances of obtaining a license. The test, while not very difficult, can be quite challenging and can take some time to master.
There are several different types of Architecture Exams. In addition to the practical exam, the student must also pass a written portion of the exam as well as the oral portion of the exam in order to become an architect. Typically, the test will be administered by an architect who will administer a multiple choice section, the essay section, or a presentation section. and will review the material in class.
Most exams are taken before students even begin school as there are usually several topics covered throughout the general education section of the exam. Students are usually required to review all of the information provided to them during the practical and written portions of the exam as well as their understanding of the subject matter at hand. Some exams require students to demonstrate their ability to create an outline that demonstrates their understanding of the concepts and theories on a specific topic. Students may also have to demonstrate their technical skill in using computer software.
Students can take the exam through the ASCE or the National Council for Accreditation of Architects and Contractors (NCCA) or through the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) as long as they are registered with their local architectural engineering association. A number of state boards of examiners also offer Architectural Exams.
